Wait, You Are Married?

September 1, 2015

January 20, 2010, was a rainy Wednesday and it was the day that I eloped to my beautiful now husband, Alejandro. I was 22 years old and he was 23 years old. I guess you can say we were young and stupid, but we were confident. We were only dating for eight months before that too, so we were definitely confident… or stupid. Five and a half years have passed and we are stronger than ever. Alejandro is not only my best friend, partner in crime, lover and supporter, but he is also my inspiration. I must confess that I was really nervous and scared that morning. I didn’t know if it was real or if it was even going to last. All I could think of was that I trusted him, and if he wanted, he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with… which I guess he did wanted since he said yes after all.

I’ve been asked many times, “why did you get married so young?” and the truth is, when you know, you know. It can be in your twenties, thirties or your forties. Heck, even older! The point is that there is not a specific age for love. And there’s no specific situation for love either. True love, in my eyes, is with a person who you can still be yourself and also grow with. When you find true love, it doesn’t matter if you haven’t finish your schooling, or you haven’t gotten “the house,” or you are not where you wanted to be economically. None of that matters because you will still be able to do it and better because you will have that back bone supporting you, seriously no pun intended. Just because you found true love it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to get married right away either. However, in my case, we were crazy and just did it. To our luck, it has worked perfectly.

The rest of my life has been the past five and a half years and they have been the best roller coaster ever! Marriage is not a noun, nor a verb, it’s an experience. I have no regrets. Alejandro has been there for the good and the bad, as well as I have for him. When the thought of Playboy came to our lives, it was my husband who said, “go for it, I’ll be right here to support you.” Kind of the main reason to why I went for it. So gentlemen, if there’s anyone to thank, you can thank him. He’s been the shoulder to cry, the ear to listen, the face to FaceTime. More than a marriage, I like to think of our relationship as a partnership with benefits, hehehe. We are there for each other, we encourage each other and we believe in each other. We work together through all of our obstacles and rejoice all of our achievements. And don’t get me wrong, we are not perfect either, no one is. Just as we’ve had our ups, we’ve had our downs. It’s just normal. However, we have been able to stay strong and together through it all.

Nobody said it was going to be easy, but no one told us it was going to be fantastic either, and so far, it’s been a blast. I don’t know what the future has in store for us, but I am sure that whatever it is, the courage to stay together will keep us fighting to stay in the same page we were when we were young and maybe stupid.☺
